About FBA West 85th
Large Outdoor Playground
To increase children’s imagination and sense of wonder, at West 85 we provide a large outdoor play area that will cater to their positive interaction with nature. In this play space, you will find natural materials that will offer children a different sensory experience. Not only will this expand on a child’s relationship with nature but the large space will allow them to build independence as they begin to experiment with safe playing distances away from caretakers.
Spacious Movement Area
Fueling Brains Academy models healthy living and that includes getting daily physical activity. For rainy or cold days, children will be spending some time in the Movement room to stay active. In this room, the class will be guided by a Movement teacher to run our Movement Program. The movement teacher will engage the children in purposeful play to help build on a child’s physical ability, such as gross motor skills, kicking, aiming, balancing, throwing etc.
Distinct Curriculum Rooms
At West 85, there are two distinct classrooms. Our Right Brain room is a Reggio philosophy inspired room which allows children to build and expand on their creativity and imagination. In this room, you will find lots of natural and beautiful materials for children to play with. Our Left Brain room is a Montessori philosophy inspired room. In this room, children will learn grace and courtesy and practical life skills.

Mr. Sukh Singh
Director - Senior Preschool
Sukh Singh has always had a passion for working closely with younger kids. Originally from Punjab, India, Sukh used to teach his younger siblings and cousins. From there, his passion for early education grew and he chose to become an Early Chilhdood Educator. Upon his move to Canada, Sukh graduated from Canadore College, Ontario with a diploma in Early Childhood Education and obtained an Alberta Child care staff Level-3 certification. With over five years of experience in the field, Sukh has worked in various roles, including Lead Teacher, Program Coordinator, and Center Director. With Fueling Brains Academy, various campuses have been lucky to have Sukh as a part of their team, such as McKnight, Bridgeland and West 85th. Sukh believes that every child deserves access to a safe and nurturing learning environment, and as the centre’s Senior Preschool Director, he is committed to working with the team at FBA West 85th to create such an environment for our youngest learners.

Ms. Louise McIlhargey
Director - Infant/Junior Preschool
Early in her life, Louise McIlhargey discovered she natural when it came to working with children. She began her pre-emptive “childcare” career as the resident babysitter for her neighbourhood block. Louise entered the adult workforce on the path to becoming a paramedic, and just as she completed her Emergency Medical Responder course, the opportunity for her to work with children arose as a Movement Assistant Teacher at FBA McKnight. Within eight months in that role, Louise moved on to take the Lead Movement Teacher at the West 85th campus, where she led the classroom for just over five years. Louise holds an Early Childhood Development Level 2 Certificate and is currently working on her Early Learning and Child Care Diploma through Red Deer College/Polytechnic. At present, Louise’s vibrant personality and passion for serving the families at FBA West 85th, help her lead the entire campus in the role of Infant/Junior Preschool Centre Director.
